A little back story

About the Author:

Jamila Harris is a marketing expert, author, income coach, broadcast journalist, speaker, trainer, and real estate broker. She has shared her knowledge and success strategies with others from coast-to-coast, conducting seminars and training in areas of Marketing Small-to-Medium Businesses, Career Development, Cultural Diversity and Entrepreneurship. Representative clients of Harris include McDonald’s Corporation, NationsBank (now Bank of America), Dow Jones & Company, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), U.S. Dept. of Public Health and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Non-violent Social Change headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.


Winner of the U.S. Small Business Administration Media Advocate of the Year Award

(1999) and the U.S. Dept. of Commerce Minority Business Advocate Award (1996),

Harris creates, produces and hosts radio, television and web programs focused on how

to build profitable businesses, accumulate wealth, and transfer assets to future

generations. She created and anchored the Atlanta Minority Enterprise Report, which

launched MediaOne on television in Atlanta. Harris is Executive Producer and Host of

The Global Business Report and Empowering YOU! Which aired weekly on the

National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate in the Virgin Islands for seven years.


Founding Director of the Dow Jones-Spelman College Entrepreneurial Center, Jamila

Harris is a product of the Atlanta University Center, namely Spelman College and

Atlanta University. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in

French and Russian. Ms. Harris speaks French fluently, and is extensively traveled,

completing an academic year of her undergraduate studies at the University of Paris in

France, while visiting countries in continental Europe, Greece, the Middle East and the

Caribbean. Further graduate study in Business Administration at Georgia State

University provided the skills, which she eventually translated into business ownership

and entrepreneurship.


Harris is a member of the National Association of Realtors®, the St. Croix Board of

Realtors ®, and Broker Owner of Eagle Realty, a full-service real estate firm serving

buyers, sellers and investors in the U.S. Virgin Islands (www.eaglerealtyvi.com).

Harris is the author of two books that provide step-by-step guidance in the transition

from employee to entrepreneur. Create Income With or Without a Job is a guide to

Make BIG $MONEY$ with Your Small Business teaches business owners how to stay

Harris is committed to economic development at all ages. She is Founder of the Harris

Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship, and Director of Kids-N-Business (kids-n-

business.com), a non-profit program teaching entrepreneurship to children ages 5-17 years.
